Illustrated from wild references of local birds sighted in the Monington Peninsula National Park. The fairy-wrens are perched on a coast tea tree (Leptospermum laevigatum), a common tree used by the birds to feed and nest in. Their plumage is varied so illustrated here is an example of a male, female, and a male in eclipse plumage.

Superb fairy-wrens can be found across south-east Australia and enjoy a shrubby understorey where they move around in small groups. New research has revealed that male fairy-wrens sing to their eggs and their chicks come out recognising their parent’s unique song.
